Today many people, adults, teens and children, wear braces to improve their dental health and enhance their smile.
Braces straighten teeth and can significantly enhance your appearance, but they also improve your dental health. Poorly aligned teeth can be difficult to clean, which can result in tooth decay and gum disease. An improperly aligned bite can cause excessive wear on certain teeth, which can lead to tooth loss. Braces can prevent these types of problems before they become severe.
At Smile Team Orthodontics, we offer the following braces treatments:
Metal braces are the most common type of braces and are a very effective and affordable method of orthodontic treatment. These braces consist of brackets, an archwire and elastics. A bracket is a small metal device that is bonded to the front surface of each tooth. Brackets today are much smaller and smoother than they were a few years ago. The archwire is connected to each bracket and is what delivers the force to the teeth to move them to a preferred position. Elastics (rubber bands) are used to connect the archwire to each bracket. Elastics come in a variety of colours.
Clear braces, also known as ceramic braces, consist of tooth coloured brackets and clear elastics. The ceramic material these brackets are made from blend in with the natural colour of your teeth, making them a discreet treatment option.
Unlike traditional braces, lingual braces are placed on the tongue side of the teeth and are therefore not visible when talking or smiling. To ensure each bracket fits the corresponding tooth appropriately, lingual braces are developed in a dental laboratory according to impressions of your individual teeth. At Smile Team Orthodontics, we use the Incognito brand of lingual braces.
